Recently I’ve had the privilege of having the best customer experience I believe possible. I’ve had some pretty good experiences in the past but anymore for most companies that is something of the past. When mistakes are made it is as-if the company says “Oh well” after all we all make mistakes, the difference is I’m a paying customer. For the companies that remember that, those are the ones that I am loyal to, the others well unless I’m forced then I avoid them like (insert any anecdote that is your favorite). The “well done”, “good job” goes to Microsoft and their Microsoft Store. Don’t get me wrong; I’ve had my share of pain from MS and as a developer that uses mainly their products I’m committed to that pain. But this is not about that, I pre-ordered the new Forza4 game for my stepson but I was also looking forward to playing the game and was going to order my own copy soon. To my surprise I received an email saying that the shipping was upgraded for free to overnight. Thinking this is great, I get to play the game for a few days before I had to release it to my stepson! The arrival date came and went with no game; I love gaming and racing games are among my top favorites, as I love cars; so to say I was disappointed was an understatement. I had the UPS tracking that showed it was just leaving so figured someone screwed up. I was just about to get on-line and click the “chat” to ask what happened, when this email arrived…
Not only that, I got a phone call that evening explaining everything. I’m still in amazement, after all how many times does a company go beyond just fixing an error to giving you something extra? (You would NEVER get that from Sony) And it was something that was a gift to begin with, I hadn’t pre-ordered with the overnight option. There is fixing a mistake and then there is – “
inconceivable”. I am still overwhelmed at what was done. It has made me think now when I make a mistake how should I go about making the wrong right? Life lessons sometimes come from the strangest places! Has Microsoft made me a very happy customer – YES! Did they create a loyal customer – YES! Will I look to the MS Store first when I purchase – YES! Am I going to upgrade my Xbox soon – YES! So for anyone looking to get a new gaming console I would highly recommend the Xbox, but don’t take my words for it just read the reviews for Forza4 compared to anything else out there.
